Train, bus, GoOpti or private transfer — all your options compared honestly
There are many Indians, few Chiefs – true Legends are rare.
And one drives the world — wherever you wish. 🚖
Lake Bled is Slovenia's most visited destination and the most common day trip from Ljubljana. The good news: it's easy to reach. The question is which option suits you best — budget, comfort, and group size all change the answer.
Bled is about 57 km northwest of Ljubljana. By car it's 45 minutes on the motorway. There's no station at the lake itself, which complicates the public transport options slightly.
The train runs regularly and the scenery through the Sava valley is genuinely beautiful. Journey time is about 55 minutes. The catch: Lesce-Bled station is 4 km from the lake. From there you can take the local bus 8 (runs occasionally, check the timetable) or a local taxi.
Direct buses run from Ljubljana's main bus station (Avtobusna postaja, next to the train station). The bus drops you near the lake — more convenient than the train. Several departures daily, journey time 1h 20–1h 40min depending on the service. Check ap.si for timetables.
GoOpti picks you up at your address in Ljubljana and drops you at Bled. They combine passengers heading the same way, which keeps the price low. Departure time may shift by 30–60 min depending on other bookings. Good for solo travellers or couples who don't mind a bit of flexibility.
We pick you up anywhere in Ljubljana — hotel, apartment, wherever — and drive you directly to Bled. No stops, no waiting for other passengers, no figuring out bus timetables. Price agreed before you get in. For 3–4 people with luggage this usually works out cheaper per person than GoOpti and saves 45–60 minutes on total journey time.
Most visitors come for the lake view — and it's everything the photos promise. A few things not to miss while you're there:
A day trip is doable from Ljubljana, but staying overnight lets you enjoy the lake in the early morning or evening when it's at its most peaceful.
By car or private transfer: about 45 minutes. By bus: 1h 20–1h 40min. By train to Lesce-Bled station: 55 min, then 4 km more to the lake.
The bus is more convenient because it drops you near the lake. The train is scenic but leaves you 4 km short. For a single traveller on a budget either works — the bus is the easier choice.
For 4 people, a private transfer at €75 works out to €18.75 per person — comparable to GoOpti and cheaper than 4 bus tickets. Plus it's door to door and 45 minutes faster.
Yes — Vintgar Gorge is 4 km from Bled. If you have a private transfer you can ask to include a stop. By public transport you'd need to check local bus timings or walk (about 50 min from the lake).
