Ljubljana Airport to Plitvice Lakes — the route

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvička jezera) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Croatia — 16 terraced lakes connected by waterfalls in colours from emerald to turquoise. It is one of the most beautiful natural parks in Europe, and a very popular day trip or stopover from Slovenia.

From Ljubljana Airport (Brnik) it is ~240 km via the A1 motorway through Karlovac. The drive takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Croatia has been in the Schengen Area since January 2023 — no border stops.

💡 Tip: The park opens at 07:00. We recommend departing from the airport by 06:30 to arrive before the summer crowds. You'll have the lakes nearly to yourself for the first two hours.
